PotterFic #1: Subtleties by magentabear

It's been a little while since I read a Potter fic. Okay, so it's been more than a little while. More like a long while. And to be honest with you, I've missed them. A lot. Twilight may have distracted me for a while, but Potter will always be my absolute, cross-my-heart-hope-to-die favourite.
One thing that has me most upset about Potter fic is the fact that www.checkmated.com is currently not functioning properly. They're having major coding and operational problems, which means the only things I can access are the malfunctioning administration page (where I can't access my queue of published and to-be-published fics), the forums, and the Accio Story button. Which is really only barely operational. If you want to read multi-chapter Potter fics on CM, don't bother just yet. No fic can currently progress past page one, and it looks like that won't be fixed anytime soon.
So Accio Story yourself stupid until you reach a one-shot. If you need the fix, that's the best way. Otherwise, FF.net it. =)

So back to the topic of this post ...

I Accio Storied through about 4 multi-chapter fics until I came across "Subtleties" by magentabear. It's not a long one-shot, but it's definitely worth reading. It's told from the eyes of Luna Lovegood as she compares the differences between many words that most people just relate the same meaning to. Nice vs Friendly; Snogging vs Kissing; Smart vs Wise; Faith vs Trust; Easy vs Better.

magentabear has written an exceptional piece of fanfiction in which the truths of life and society are compared in such a way that it's hard to see how you could confuse them in the first place. In the book series, Luna comes across as knowledgeable, but carefree. She knows just how serious the Wizarding World's situation is with the threat of Lord Voldemort looming overhead, but doesn't seem to let that get her down. In this fic, magentabear shows us a side of Luna that portrays her in a different light. She's not just the looney, free-spirited girl everyone thinks she is. Inside, she's just like the rest of them, perhaps more perceptive than anyone realises.

A great one-shot, one that I would most definitely read again and I highly reccommend it to all who enjoy a good read, Potter fan or no.
